Kara and I have been to Bern twice, each time for no more than a day, and were pleasantly surprised each time. This time, we stopped in Bern for a night in between a week in Zurich and a flight from Geneva. We stayed in a spacious and pleasant AirBnb in Markusricht and arrived just in time for Carnaval, Swiss-style.

The main street in Bern’s old town was lined with beer, food and gluvein stalls and everyone was dressed in costume. It felt like a cross between Halloween and Mardi Gras. There were even musical performance by marching bands dressed in thematic costumes. Kids at the parade threw confetti at the marchers and performers, who in turn gave candy to the kids.  It was serendipitous that we were there to witness it.

Below are some amazing photos of the Carnaval parade.
